Tis the Season

Today is Halloween, the start of the "holiday season," and the eve of my new lifestyle. Tomorrow is November first. The day I said I would start The Whole30 challenge.

But first let me be festive and post my #throwbackthursday Halloween edition.

Post College

Well I'm not dressing up this year. I did manage to be festive for work today with my orange dress, black sweater and boots. No picture. Sorry. #bloggerfail

Time Marches On....

Every morning I listen to The Bobby Bones Show which is a nationally syndicated radio show based out of Nashville, TN. Until about a month ago I was listening to it on XM Radio, but the local Nashville station I listened to was pulled from XM. I am NOT ok with that, so now I listen on iHeartRadio. When will & I went to Nashville we met the DJs. Pretty cool!

Anyways, the show about once a week has a segment entitled "Time Marches On..." and for these 30-something DJs they normally talk about ailments or observations that make them realize they are getting older.. hence "Time Marches On..." (which is also the title of an old country song). I thought I would do my own version...

First of all Will turning 31 makes us feel really old. Because, I mean, 30 was ancient when I was 13.
Look at this cutness... he looks great for 31! Not old at all! :)

Then yesterday we we talking and I said OMG in 8 months I'll be 28. How in the world did THAT happen?? I'll be 28 & attending my 10year high school reunion. I feel like I've accomplished a lot in that 10 years: my bachelors degree, bought my first dog, car and house, had several jobs, and got my masters degree. I'd say that was accomplishing plenty of items on my to-do list goals! Still I thought I would be married with 1.2 kids by the time I was 28 22. Ha.

While I am SO happy for all my friends who have found the love of their life in their early 20s, settled down and had their 1.5 kids or more, I want that so badly for myself. However, if there is anything I've learned in my 20s it's that you can plan out everything and then God says... yea... no, that's not how it's going to be. :) So... time marches on... it will eventually be my turn.
so true. ....sweet
Another realization that I'm older in my late 20s is during my 4 day weekend I cleaned my house. Yes, I was entertaining and so of course parts of the house had to be straightened up and made overly presentable to have people over, but I deep cleaned several areas of my house that had been neglected & I couldn't be happier to be sitting at work and know that I am going home to a SUPER clean house!
 LOL so true

Finally, time is marching on because I went to the gym Thurs & Friday and today (Monday) is the first day I feel "normal" after working out those 2 days. Geezus. This getting back in shape is hard!
Can I skip the workout and just go straight to the looking hot in a bikini part?

Love Fat Amy

One of the classes I took I felt like I needed to lose weight before I could go back! My toes were so far away from my fingers!!

Time Marches On.....

What I'm into Wednesday

I used to participate in Semi-Wordless Wednesday, but since I have re-entered blog world that link up has died out. I don't know of a Wednesday link up going on... I would love to make this a link up once I get a few more followers!

I was just thinking of a few things that I'm into this week and thought why not "What I'm into Wednesday!" It's the middle of the week and a good point to share what's going on and what I'm into.

What I'm into this Wednesday is:

Katy Perry's new Album. Every song is pretty great & it's definitely a more mature sound than past albums. She definitely still has some hate in her heart towards Russell Brand (can't blame her!) and she and John Mayer have a lot of magic happening in the bedroom. Those were my 2 conclusions from the album... but still great, it's been on repeat since yesterday!
3 must listens (besides ROAR) are: Birthday, International Smile, and It Takes Two

The Pinterest recipe I made last night! Definitely not going to fit into the new diet/lifestyle come November 1st. It's a keeper though! It's great if you want the lasagna taste without the lasagna effort. Feeds like 5-6people! But since it's just two of us that meant lunch leftovers! Win-Win!

Also I'm into it being a 3 day work week (today is my Friday) and a 4 day weekend having a #staycation/ #adultfallbreak/ #Willsbdayweekend

& I'm into hastags because who isn't after this hilarious skit on Jimmy Fallon (in case you've been under a rock & you haven't seen it)

Stay lovely...

Real Talk- I have an Autoimmune Disease

I have enjoyed reading other life style blogs and I admire how real and honest bloggers are. So I'm about to get real honest with my audience and with myself. This is going to be a lengthy post so if you stick with me you deserve a prize!

I graduated college in May 2008. My last two years of college were full of good times and fast food. Mostly because the guy I was dating was a fast-food junky and we ate that crap nearly every night & if we didn't go through a drive through we ordered pizza, ate hamburger helper (I never had it until college), and Ramen. Yep. Healthy choices. Probably wouldn't have been so bad if we maybe worked out. But we didn't. I was active in high school... I was on the colorguard in the marching band and I spent every afternoon from 3:30-6 busting my ass on a football field running around and chasing flying flags. I was skinny and my metabolism was a champ! Well my university didn't have much of a gym or fitness mind when I was a freshman, by my senior year we had a brand new state of the art facility, which I used very little. I took a yoga class and aerobic walking for credit and that was about my extent in the new gym. I just had in my mind that I could still have the same body I had in high school with little to no effort.

To add insult to injury during my sophomore year of college my parents joined Weight Watchers and my mom dropped from a size 12 to a size 2 in about 6 months. She was asking to borrow my clothes. I was disgusted. And instead of joining I decided I would be spiteful and eat my feelings. I was also in a relationship (with fast food junkie guy) that my parents didn't approve of so I ate out of spite for that as well. So basically when I graduated college I was about 45-50lbs heavier than I was when I entered as a freshman. I joked that I gained my "freshman 15", plus my sophomore 15, plus my junior 15. Although it really wasn't funny.

Ok, so that was pretty bad. But that wasn't even my worst or heaviest. After graduation I lived at home for 9 months. I thought I would "get skinny" just by living with my overly active parents who were Weight Watchers champs! Well.. not so much. I ate poorly and again never exercised. However, I never "thought" I was fat. In my head I was still the same size I was in high school/early college. The pics below are from 2009-2010. I dropped several dress sizes. I made an effort to exercise (joined a Zumba class 2-3 nights a week) and I was eating better. I also was a nanny and was on the go constantly with my little one and pretty active during the day.

I was getting back to my old self and feeling confident! Then I quit being a nanny and got a desk job. Worst. Mistake. Of. My. Life. It not only depressed me professionally it changed my attitude about how I felt about myself worth. (By the end of 2012 that is.) In the fall of 2010 I was job searching and then got said desk job in late November. I had already purchased tickets to the CMA Festival in Nashville, TN for June 2011. I was determined to look "hot" and wear shorts for the first time since high school. I got determined! I jumped on the New Year, New Me band wagon. I committed to losing 25lbs by the time I turned 25. I had 6 months until my trip and 7 until my 25th birthday. I was going to do it! I was at the gym 4-5 days a week after work and/or Saturday mornings for ALL of January and most of February. I was eating right, salads, yogurt, lean meat and veggies. Pretty much doing weight watchers. I lost NOTHING. Not a single pound. I knew something had to be wrong.

On February 24th I went to my doctor. After telling her of my struggle she decided to take several tubes of blood and ran a bunch of tests. Thyroid, glucose, cholesterol, etc. Well what came back was Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome, better known as PCOS. Basically, my ovaries looked like chocolate chip cookies with cysts, my weight gain went to my middle, my acne as out of control, my migraines were extreme and the insulin spikes explained my nausea, and reason I couldn't lose weight. All those ailments didn't mean anything to me until she listed them as symptoms of PCOS. I was in tears out of fear of what was happening to my body. How it got like this, how to reverse it. Well, there is no reversing. There was only the option to take drugs (Metformin) and a diuretic and continue to exercise and eat right. So. I did. & From February 25th until June 4, I took the meds (suffered through the agonizing trips to the bathroom) and dropped 18lbs. Below is the evolution of those months.

Well I maintained my weight through the fall of 2011. But said desk job and a little relationship depression caused me to gain back several pounds. I also quit taking my meds. I was tired of feeling sick all the time and running to the bathroom 3-5 times a day.
By the summer of 2012 I looked like this...
I was now in a happy relationship with William. I was comfortable & didn't even realize I was putting on weight. All my clothes still fit for the most part and I had someone who loved me for me. We didn't exercise much & we were ice cream junkies that summer. I started graduate school in August, lost my previously horrible desk job, got a new job & by our one year anniversary in March I looked like this...

So now I've completed graduate school, I have a different job where I am happier. My spring/summer was plagued with disgruntled parents over an entirely different issue than my weight, I'll leave that for another time. But Will & I just ate. I have been too tired to go to the gym and to do anything different than I had been. I've been LAZY! Well, in August I went 60 days from one period to the next. I knew I wasn't pregnant, I'm not sexually active, so I knew it was the PCOS rearing it's ugly head and this time with more of a vengeance. The weight gain is out of control. I keep making excuses like, "it's fall, it's my favorite season with all my favorite goodies! I can't possibly diet now!"

Well... after another 45 days between menstral cycles I've come to realize that this can't go on. I'm destroying my body. The one and only body that God has given me. I'm scared that if I don't do something I will damage my body beyond repair, if I haven't already. I've ignored this "disease" long enough. I have to come to terms that I have PCOS and I have to do something about it or I will have to live with pictures of "fat me" during my engagement, wedding, etc. & I could jeopardize my chances of being able to have a child and be a mother, the one thing I know I was put on this world do. I've had enough and so has my body.

After reading a few blogs and articles about PCOS, come November 1 I'm going to try The Whole30. Here is a success story of a woman who also HAD PCOS but after doing The Whole30 the symptoms disappeared. This way of eating has also helped those with other ailments including Type 2 diabetes with is what Will has.

I really want to make a change to our diet, our lifestyle and ourselves. We can't continue on the path we are on with out severe consequences that will ultimately effect the rest of our lives. It's time to make the change!

I believe the best way for me to stay accountable is to blog about this journey. I hope you continue to keep up with my/our progress & encourage us along the way.

Stay lovely...

Weekend Update

Well it was a rip roaring Friday night for sure... ok not really. We went to a high school football game! I like to go back to my high school for at least one game during the season. I normally go for Homecoming but this year I was in Oklahoma that Friday night.

Some how always returning to that atmosphere is a walk down memory lane even though it's not the same stadium, the student section isn't nearly as enthusiastic as ours was and the band isn't directed by the same person as when I was there. What takes me back are the smells and the sounds. There is something about hearing my alma mater that brings a mist to my eye and smelling dewy grass that takes me back to many a Friday night ten years ago. I won't lie, I had some of the best times of my life in high school.

I'm on the planning committee for my 10 year (how is that even possible) high school reunion that is next August. We have been putting old pictures on our Facebook page for throw back Thursday. here is a picture of the student section in 2004.

Saturday was a typical lazy fall Saturday with plenty of football, a cat nap and some boneless ribs. What could be better? Unfortunately both SC teams couldn't pull out a win this week.
At least Will & I could be sad about our teams together.

So to drown our misery we went to the SC State Fair Sunday (on the last day) to consume as much fried, greasy, sugary foods as possible. We split: Fiske Fries & a funnel cake. Will ate: a corndog and a Krispie Kreme donut burger. I ate: a corndog and a frozen chocolate covered banana. It's my staple fair food. However, I will spare you a picture of it b/c it does not look lady like to eat. In fact 2 high school guys walked by laughing at me. It's cool. Happens every year. hastag MINDINTHEGUTTER

That was our weekend. Pretty uneventful. But sometimes that's OK. We have a 3-day work week and a 4-day weekend on tap! We are pretty excited about having the time off for a "staycation" and celebrating Will's birthday!!
I'm also going to be cooking some this week... going to have to move the sweaters from the oven! I plan on making a breakfast casserole, a box mix bday cake, and this recipe from Pinterest. I'll let you know if it's a keeper!

Fall Y'all!

It has been a while since I've updated. Not because I haven't wanted to...I've just felt uninspired and that all my post were becoming were photo dumps, weekend updates, and unimportant garbage. I also feel like nobody is reading this little ditty.

I've been on blogger everyday reading my normal blogs I keep up with and looking for a few new blogs to follow. I've found a couple of good ones I think! That being said, I really want to try to gain back an audience and bring this blog back from the grave.

I feel like if I do, something exciting will happen to me. Probably not.. but alas this is a try.

I know I said I would update about our trip to Nashville, however, that would just be a photo dump. So.. if you really want to see how it was visit my album on Facebook. There you can scroll through over 100 pictures. It was a great trip that was much deserving and we had fun together. It was a nice get away that we needed after a long spring and summer with not much time off of work and school.

It's been a busy fall so far! We planned and executed my mom's surprise 60th birthday party, we attended Will's cousin's beautiful wedding, weathered my dad's total hip replacement (which went very well and he's pretty much back up and running, not literally), attended Will's family reunion, I took a trip with work to Tulsa, OK, we've watched a TON of football ( & gone to a few USC games), new seasons of our favorite shows are back, & we've decorated for my favorite season/holidays!

Next we are gearing up for Will's birthday in less than a week! Eek! My old man will be 31! I met him when he was 29... how did so much time go by already?? We are keeping it low key this year... last year was a big surprise party! This year is just having a few friends over to grill and watch the USC game. Birthdays have always been made a big deal in my family and I intend on continuing the tradition! SO a celebration of some sort was in order!

One of the new blogs I'm following is I Wore Yoga Pants to Work. This 20-something chick is hilarious and the title of her blog alone is what attracted me. I may be guilty of the same "crime." Although she states in her "about me" section that she actually IS allowed to wear said yoga pants... I'm not. :)

I'm also now following The Reedy Review who is originally from Columbia, and now living in Greenville.

Anyways, it's Friday y'all and that means a link up. So I think I'll link up with Whit @ the previously mentioned I Wore Yoga Pants to Work for her #backthatazzup Friday!
